It started as a fun way to get the kids to record their singing. I’ve done a little recording at home (totally amateur stuff although I’d love to record for real someday) so I have a nice microphone and I’m pretty familiar with the software that I use to mix all slideshow soundtracks. The kids HATE sitting for videos to sing, but for some reason they just love using the microphone and hearing their voice on the computer. I’ll take it.
This week we broke out our Beauty and the Beast DVD and Emma and Noah both have been loving it. Since the first time they watched the movie (a while back), they’ve both loved the opening song and this week I’ve noticed them singing it on several occasions. It was adorable. Sometimes they’d sing alone and other times they’d go back and forth with the dialogue. I love it. I’ve always loved musical theater and as I listened to their little voices sing and go through the spoken lines, it was like attending the best performance ever.
Last night, Emma glanced at the microphone sitting next to the computer and asked if she could sing a special song. I decided to take advantage of the opportunity and see if I could get her to sing “Belle”. Her one condition was that I sing with her. So I did and here’s the result. We only did the one take and frankly, I’m amazed that she stayed focused until the end. Usually her shy side gets the best of her after a minute or two. Being done in one take was great although I have to admit that I wish I hadn’t been quite so enthusiastic with my “Bonjour!”s…
Regardless of how crazy I sound, I’m so impressed by Emma. Her voice and vibrato warm my heart and the way she says some of these lines just cracks me up!!! And of course I just have to smile when I her imitate the characters’ voices and muddle through the lyrics she doesn’t know! Adorable! I had to share. I know it’s 5+ minutes long, but I did add a few pictures to keep your eyes entertained!
I have a feeling that someday we’ll be sitting in an audience watching her sing. And I’m 100% fine with that.
